First of all, during this crazy time, we want you to know that we are committed to providing safe, relaxing getaway for you. Some basic information about the rentals themselves follow. 1. Our rentals are located in a rural area where you have the option to interact only with yourselves. There are neighbors, but there is plenty of outdoor space for you to enjoy at both locations. 2. Restaurant’s and bars are closing tonight at end of day for two weeks. Most restaurants are staying open and doing delivery and/ or curbside. We will list these restaurants below and will provide a list at the rentals. 3. In between guests, we will continue to thoroughly sanitize all linens, door handles, remotes, etc. This is currently our practice as is, but will be extra vigilant during this time. 4. Antibacterial hand and dish soap are provided at the rentals. 5. We will limit our visiting with guests unless you need us to bring you something, or you would like a fire built, etc. We will remain in contact via text/ Airbnb messaging. Our numbers are provided via the app (once you book, you have the option to call us) and if you can’t reach us by phone- shoot a text and we will get back to you as soon as possible. 6. Cancellation policy: We will be following our "Moderate" Cancellation policy while following VRBO's guidelines for cancellations that fall within the dates of 3/13/2020 and 4/30/2020: Travelers who cancel at least 30 days before check-in will get back 100% of the amount they've paid. If they cancel any later than 30 days before check-in, they'll get back 50% of their fee, OR can choose to reschedule for no additional fee. We will simply move your stay to your chosen dates, and will allow you 90 days to choose new dates (your rescheduled stay does not need to fall within 90 days- it just needs to be booked during this 90 days). Set toward the end of a small neighborhood in the woods, surrounded by the Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge, you'll experience the solitude you're looking for on your vacation! Our neighborhood is small, and the neighbors are amazing- we are sort of a small family on our own. If you see Faye outside waving at you, stop and chat- it will make her day, and she has a lot of great information on the history of the neighborhood itself. We just ask that you be respectful of our neighbors by driving slowly each time you go down the lane, keeping loud music/ noises to a minimum after 10, and not littering. With a full kitchen, washer and dryer, and 2 bedrooms, the Cottage is perfect for a quick getaway or a longer stay. "Dorothy's Room" features a queen bed. "Jack's Room" features two twin bed, and the living room has two (comfortable- I promise!) Futons that cold down into full size beds - plenty of room for a group or a getaway with friends! We don’t charge for extra guests, and we have no issue with air mattresses or anything being brought In. Both rooms feature ceiling fans with remotes, closets, and cozy bedding! The living/ dining area gives you the perfect, cozy spot to relax in front of the gas fireplace- just flip a switch for instant ambiance. Pop in a DVD, play a board game, or check out one of the local activity guides to plan your stay. The bathroom includes a full size tub/ shower, lighted vanity, pedestal sink, and of the...ummm.. throne. Towels, toilet paper, and assorted amenities are included for your convenience. The open kitchen is perfect for preparing meals while still enjoying your party. A full sized fridge and oven/ stove, sink, and plenty of cabinet space allow you to cook a gourmet meal or make a quick snack. We provide all the kitchen utensils and pots and pans that you may need! Basics such as flour, sugar, salt and pepper, etc. will be ready for guest use! The kitchen also includes a stackable washer and dryer. Laundry soap and dryer sheets are there if you need to was a load of clothes, or just a few items. The screened in porch is the perfect place to hang out without having to worry about mosquitos or rain. Relax, enjoy your meal, or just sit and enjoy the sounds of nature. The "Creek Deck" as we call it, overlooks a small creek and is our favorite spot! It overlooks a small creek and provides great background noise after a rain! An outdoor table with seating for 4 and umbrella make it a great spot to spend time. Relax in the hammock nearby, or make a campfire and roast hot dogs or marshmallows. Across the road, you can check out Devils Kitchen Lake. There is a kayak drop in (ask us about our kayak/ canoe rentals), paved roads that are perfect for a walk or bike riding, and a great spot next to lake for a picnic. Plus, you may get to see the geese that call the lake home holding traffic up. Down the road, you can check out Little Grassy Lake. There's a spot that's perfect for pictures, a secret swimming spot, and a marina where you can rent pontoon boats for the day!

Nearby Carbondale boasts a lively local music scene with a variety of local restaurants and shops to explore. Giant City State Park is nearby waiting to be explored! The refuge Bungalow includes one bedroom that holds two sets of twin bunk beds and a queen bed. There is a single bathroom with stand up shower, toilet, vanity, and pedestal sink. A galley kitchen holds a full sized fridge, microwave, and sink. There is no stove but we do include a griddle, hot plate, and charcoal grill. There is also a large fire pit with plenty of seating and firewood to use at your convenience. The Refuge Bungalow is located on the Shawnee wine trail and is only a 10 minute drive Blue Sky Winery. Both Devils Kitchen Lake as well as Little Grassy lake are minutes from the cabin. Both of these lakes offer public fishing, swimming, and boating. Pontoon boat rentals are available through the public marina and kayak and canoe rentals are available through SIUC. Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge offers hiking trails, bird watching, and public hunting access. Giant City State Park is only 10 minutes away and is home to beautiful trails, rock climbing, and the Giant City Lodge. Enjoy the Southern Illinois tradition of having family style fried chicken for lunch on Sunday, but be sure to get there early! Ferne Clyffe state park is a 23 minute drive from the Bungalow. Named for its abundance of ferns, it's a beautiful spot for hiking and home to one of our favorite stroller friendly trails that ends at a waterfall. Fishing, hunting, and picnicking are also offered at Ferne Clyffe. Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a short 15 minute drive from the Bungalow. Carbondale is also home to many local restaurants, bars, and shops for any taste. We are happy to make suggestions based on your preferences! Marion, Il is also a 15 minute drive away and home to an airport, shopping, and restaurants. Makanda, Il (also a 15 minute drive) is a unique town known for its local shops and restaurants along it's boardwalk. Makanda is the gateway to Giant City Park and the River to River Trail passes through town. Cobden, Il is well known for it's "Little House of Tacos" as well as it's fruit orchards. It's Peach Festival is held in August each year. Enjoy a beautiful 25 minute drive through the country on your way to Cobden. As a family, we love exploring Southern Illinois. When you book your stay at MoJo Valley, you are guaranteed an enjoyable stay. Each reservation comes with one dozen farm fresh eggs from hens found on the property. The home comes with a queen bed and a sleeper sofa, as well as a full kitchen and bath. The home will be furnished with basic pantry items, a half gallon of milk, and orange juice. The nearest grocery store is approximately 15 minutes away and the nearest winery is just over a mile. This home is located on our 21-acre, wooded property and our home is a short walk away (400 ft). While it is not visible due to the woods, we are available if needed. When you arrive, you will be given keys to the property and we will not bother you unless our assistance is needed. The cottage does not come with wifi or a television. The home is located less than a mile-and-a-half from Blue Sky Winery and less than five miles from Owl Creek Vineyard. The Shawnee Hills Wine Trail is located just half-a-mile from the home.

The home is a real log and timber frame home built in 2010. With a large deck and screened sun porch you can relax and enjoy the views and sunset. 2000 square feet with 3 bedrooms, loft, full kitchen and 2.5 bathrooms. Its a rustic location but a luxury home. Sleeps 6-8 comfortably. Two Queen beds, One king bed and queen futon in the loft, can also fit two kids to sleep on the large daybed sofa. We have a fire pit and wood outside for a nice campfire.

The luxurious Pool House is located in the centrally located, historic Arbor District. A 900 sq foot cottage on 3/4 acre of fenced grounds next to our main house, it has a gourmet kitchen, washer dryer, King Sized Danish bed, upstairs game room, dedicated WiFi, a queen size futon couch/bed in the common area and a 50,000 gallon, unheated, swimming pool. We've recently added a Finnish sauna and a Japanese Ofuro all cedar soaking tub. We accept well behaved pets for a fee of $35 per day. During the Coronavirus emergency we require a minimum of 2 days between guests. During this time we thoroughly clean and sanitize the house, sauna, hot tub and pool. A TV in the bedroom and a 55" TV upstairs have ethernet connections to the cable internet, for maximum reliability. The Pool House ground floor was designed with wide doors to be accessible for wheel chairs and walkers. A concrete path and short ramp lead from the parking spot to the front door. There is, however, one step up to the porch. The Pool House has been inspected by City Neighborhood Services and the Carbondale Fire Department for health and safety. We are in the heart of the southern Illinois wine trail and just a few miles from Bald Knob Cross, gorgeous hiking areas and bike trails. You will love Havisham House. This house holds historic charm and is tastefully decorated. Very clean, spacious and private. When you rent one room, you get the entire home. This stately Main House offers two beautiful bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a full kitchen, parlor, living room, formal dining room, breakfast/sun room and a spacious and relaxing covered front porch. The living room has private doors, a gas fireplace and comfortable queen sleeper sofa. Main House sleeps up to 6 adults. Not a child-friendly home. Why did we name it "Havisham House"? Have you read Great Expectations by Charles Dickens? Main character, Miss Havisham, lived in the Satis House, a ruined mansion. This property immediately reminded me of this classic novel when we found it in 2015… abandoned and heavily damaged from a severe tornado. (Please see "before" pictures at havishamhouse.com.) Even with its extensive damage, we fell in love with this property and had "great expectations" for its rescue. The main floor of this cozy Carriage House offers a bedroom, full bathroom, kitchen and living room. Downstairs has a larger bedroom, full bathroom and an exit to a private outside patio area.
